The Byzantine Music Choir Artos, based in Vilnius (Lithuania, Belarus), performs Byzantine liturgical music in Belarusian and Lithuanian. The aim of this vocal group is to delve into the ancient tradition of Byzantine music in order to sing it within the context of Orthodox liturgy. The choir’s leader, Pavel Gonta (Lithuania, Belarus), has for several years been working to adapt the Byzantine chant tradition to liturgical texts in Lithuanian and Belarusian, drawing on examples from Greek, Bulgarian, and Serbian Byzantine music.
